Background and purpose: Family is the center and core of care, so the most effective services are those that emphasize the role of family in treatment. The MPOC-SP Questionnaire has been developed to enter the process of assessing the process of providing family-centered services. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the delivery of services by service providers in Iran based on the Persian version of the Measure of Processes of Care for Service Providers (MPOC-SP) Questionnaire.
Materials and methods: In this study, 150 service providers were selected from among doctors, nurses and midwives, rehabilitation therapists, as well as graduates of public health. Service providers registered their views on how they served their services in questionnaires. Data were then analyzed by IBM SPSS 22 software.
Results: The average score of the "showing interpersonal sensitivity", "providing of general information" as well as the mean score of the whole questionnaire of the process of care in the private centers was statistically significant and higher than the governmental centers. The averages of these components as well as “Treating people respectfully” in different age groups of service recipients and in different service providers were statistically significant. Regarding the scores of different areas of the questionnaire, the domain of "respectful behavior with the people" and the area "showing interpersonal sensitivity" earned the highest and lowest points, respectively.
Conclusion: Service providers' responses showed that health and rehabilitation centers behaved well with clients in terms of respectful behavior, but providing general information and showing interpersonal sensitivity were relatively weak areas. The average of these components as well as the average of the total score of the questionnaire were highest in rehabilitation fields and then ranked respectively by medical and medical personnel respectively. As a final conclusion, this questionnaire can be useful in assessing how services are provided and identifying service gaps to improve and move towards providing more family-centered services.
