Objective: The objective of the present study is to identify thematic evolution trends and map the conceptual structure of the rehabilitation field in Iran from 2000 to 2024. In this regard, the central research question is: What thematic evolution trends has rehabilitation research in Iran undergone during these years, and what subfields shape its conceptual structure?
Materials & Methods: This study employed co-word analysis and network analysis methodologies. The research corpus comprised 623 documents indexed in the Islamic World Science Citation Center (ISC) database. Cluster analysis using VOSviewer software and strategic diagram plotting in Excel were utilized to map the conceptual structure of research and identify subfields and their interrelationships within this domain.
Results: Cluster analysis revealed ten distinct thematic clusters: (1) Education, evaluation, and professional ethics in rehabilitation sciences; (2) Psychocardiological and exercise rehabilitation in chronic dis eases; (3) Exercise therapy and pain management in musculoskeletal disorders and disabilities; (4) Geriatric rehabilitation, occupational rehabilitation, and educational technologies; (5) Rehabilitation of executive functions and developmental disorders; (6) Computerized cognitive and neuropsychological rehabilitation in learning disorders; (7) Quality of life, mental health, and disability rehabilitation policy; (8) Neuromotor rehabilitation and brain stimulation; (9) Mental health and cognitive-auditory rehabilitation; and (10) Cognitive and pharmacological rehabilitation in ADHD. The highest number of clusters were positioned in Quadrant 3. The concentration of a large portion of the ten clusters in Quadrant 3 indicates that a broad spectrum of rehabilitation topics in Persian literature lacks internal methodological integration and a solid theoretical framework, remaining scattered or isolated from the mainstream of cognitive rehabilitation.
Conclusion: This study highlights key research subfields and emerging trends within Persian rehabilitation literature in the ISC database, offering valuable insights for future research. The findings provide a comprehensive perspective on scientific shifts in rehabilitation and demonstrate that the knowledge map in Iran is characterized by the maturity and centrality of cognitive rehabilitation relative to foundational and emerging subdomains. This underscores the imperative for qualitative enhancement and balanced development across physical, managerial, and novel therapeutic technology domains.
