Objective This study presents the protocol for a randomized clinical trial examining the effects of dry needling (DN) on spasticity, balance, and lower-limb motor function in individuals after stroke.
Materials & Methods This is a protocol study for a randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled clinical trial involving 24 adults with stroke, randomized to real DN and sham DN groups. The DN was applied to the gastrocnemius, soleus, and tibialis posterior muscles. Spasticity, balance, and lower-limb motor function will be assessed using validated instruments.
Results It is anticipated that real DN will significantly reduce spasticity and improve balance and lower-limb motor function in individuals with stroke.
Conclusion The clinical trial is expected to provide evidence regarding the clinical value of DN for improving spasticity, balance, and lower-limb motor function after stroke. If effective, DN can be considered as an adjunctive intervention in stroke rehabilitation.
