Abstract:   (852 Views)
Objective Following coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery, patients frequently experience considerable anxiety, which can lead to harmful physiological consequences. Foot reflexology massage is gaining recognition as an advantageous complementary therapy. This study investigates the impact of foot reflexology massage on both anxiety levels and physiological parameters following CABG.
Materials & Methods A sample of 120 patients who underwent CABG surgery was randomly assigned to three groups as follows: The intervention group (foot reflexology massage), the control group (no intervention), and the placebo group (superficial foot massage). Assessment tools included demographic data, hemodynamic indices, and the Spielberger anxiety questionnaire. The data were analyzed utilizing descriptive and inferential statistical methods with SPSS software, version 24.
Results Post-intervention, anxiety levels displayed a significant decrease in both the intervention group (d=1.674, P<0.001, t[39]=10.46) and the superficial massage group (d=0.342, P=0.039, t[39]=2.14). Additionally, physiological parameters in both the reflexology and superficial massage groups showed significant improvement (P<0.05); however, the control group did not exhibit any notable changes.
Conclusion Foot reflexology massage emerges as a valuable complementary approach in reducing anxiety and improving physiological parameters among patients undergoing CABG surgery.
