Abstract: (87 Views)
Objective Patients experience high levels of anxiety after coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery, with adverse outcomes such as instability of physiological parameters. Foot reflexology massage is one of the most common complementary treatments. This study was concluded to investigate the effect of foot reflexology massage on anxiety and physiological indices after CABG.
Materials & Methods 120 patients having undergone CABG divided into three groups intervention, control, and placebo. The study instrument included demographic characteristics, hemodynamic indices, and the Spielberger anxiety questionnaire. In the intervention group, a foot reflexology massage, in the control group no intervention and in the placebo group, superficial foot massage was performed. Data analyzed with, descriptive and inferential statistical tests and SPSS24.
Results The mean score of anxiety in intervention and superficial foot massage groups was respectively (d=1.674, P<0.001, t (39) =10.46) and (d=0.342, P=0.039, t (39) =2.14) significantly decreased after the intervention, and the mean of physiological parameters in the groups of reflexology and superficial foot massage after the intervention decreased significantly(P<0.05) too, while in the control group there was no significant statistical difference.
Conclusion Reflexology foot massage can be used as a useful complementary treatment to reduce anxiety and improve physiological parameters in CABG patients.
